How to get there.
5-week course for adults.
Born out of the ideals of John Ruskin, William Morris, Philip Webb, Charles Ashbee and a host of other craftsmen, writers and
social reformers from the mid 19th to the early 20th century, the movement was based on principles of integrity and social reform
and its hallmarks are simple designs, beautiful materials and honest craftsmanship. This course will focus on the
Arts and Crafts Movement in England and Scotland with reference to the important role women played in the development of the
Glasgow Style, which was not the case in the early years of the English Movement where middle class male architects dominated.
Eileen Marston lives in Reading where she studied the History of Art and Architecture for her BA at the University of Reading.
She is passionate about 20th Century British Art, which she feels is a much neglected area of Art History.
